So I'm trying to figure out how to have power at my booth without having to buy a bulky, expensive & noisy generator. Are there any long lasting batteries? What do you guys do to light up your booth?

Re: lighting up your booth
Sat, May 24, 2008 - 2:00 PMA lot of people get Car batterys and an inverter they can clip on to them.
I've seen them used to power lights, credit card machines, etc... Depending on how much draw you are putting on it the battery should last a whole fair day, or night if you are just using it for some low wattage/draw lights... Though you will need to find a place to recharge it.
Typically my campers lights will run off my battery for a six week run at Northern without needing a recharge as long as I turn them off when I am not at the trailer...

Sun, May 25, 2008 - 4:36 AMIf you're just lighting, try looking for little battery powered push lights. They hide easily and light up fairly well, leaving just enough darkness to not be obtrusive.

Sun, May 25, 2008 - 6:21 AMAt Bristol I saw a permanent shop that had a small overhead fluorescent light over their counter that they just covered with a piece of fabric but they had a regular electrical hook up.
There are also solar trickle charger panels designed to help recharge "deep cycle" batteries for RVs. A car batttery is mainly designed to give a quick jolt to start the car. Deep cycle batteries are used for back-up power, or powering lights in RVs and are intended to be run down and recharged Here's a faq page discussing batteries www.windsun.com/Batteries/...ery_FAQ.htm
There's also some neat backpacks and things being made with solar panels

Sun, May 25, 2008 - 8:35 PMYeah, my friend Foxfire told me how he used solar panels he hooked up to marine batteries and ran his electricity off that.
I am going to look into these other suggestions as well!
This is something I need to figure out asap too :)

Re: lighting up your booth
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 8:41 PMI am curious as to what events force you to keep your booths open after dark. In my many, many years working fairs & events I only worked one outdoor event that was open after dark, and by then the attendees were so drunk they didn't notice that all the booths had closed up.This was the Sausalito Art Festival
My mom used to try to stay open with her jewelry booth until the night she spilled about $100,000.00 in inventory in the grass in the dark..Its possible we picked it all up. -

Thu, July 24, 2008 - 9:01 AMLook to RV suppliers. They have several 24v & 12v solutions coupled with solar cell. Some of these fixtures have built-in battery storage. The problem with car batteries is the weight and "off gassing" (not good in an enclosed area).
