Anyone Ever Sell at Harmony Festival?

topic posted Thu, April 27, 2006 - 7:41 PM by  Stillfire
I am wondering how it is. If they allow booth sharing--? If so--I might be looking for someone to share with (who doesn't make jewelry or mosaics). This festival looks very cool.

Please let me know if youhave experience there!

I would especially love to hear from someone who has been a vendor of jewelry or mosaics.

It IS a very cool festival! But it is true... no one knows the difference between crafts and imports, and expects to pay less. After paying $20 entrance fee and $10 for parking, most people spend less inside. I have sold at that festival for many years and opted to not do it anymore. However, so crafters and artisans do quite well. It depends on what you have. I sold my jewelry, and many other things. I barely came out even. But I enjoyed being there SO much that it was worth it to me. It can go either way, but know that many crafters and artisans do not get what they deserve financially because of all of the importers. If you can share a booth with someone, that might be the way to go for the first year. That way you can cut your costs. Make sure to order extra passes beforehand, as they are outrageously expensive later on. Any other questions you have, lemme know. I'm happy to answer anything. I am hoping to go this year to support my friends who still have booths there... plus, like I said, I love the environment and the magic that is there. Good luck!

By the way... it is a very hippy-ish faire with eco-minded people, great music, and good vibes.

Thanks Felicity for bringing some Balance to this thread!
It has been brought up with Production repeatedly that the entrance fee is exorbitant. They answer, we have to pay the bands. Well, many people have no intention of seeing the bands, and what is preventing them from charging a seperate admission, or a different ticket to get in to see the band.
The problem is that they Do pretend to listen to rational and profitable suggestions, promise to implement them, and then turn around and do exactly the opposite of what they both promised the vendors AND what they advertise.
The sad thing for me is it is Exactly the right venue for my product, but not for me!

thanks so much for that info. i think i will probably pass on selling there. i am disappointed because it does seem like such a cool place. maybe i will just go as an attendee (seems very cheap that way). thanks both of you for the warnings.

here's a question--if i was just going to try my luck at *one* large faire between now and the holiday season--what would you reccomend? not sure if i said it--but i make mosaics and gemstone/amber jewelry. price range between $20-$180 (averaging at about $50 for many items). i have not been very successful at small faires, lotsa folks love my work but not many people shopping.

i was thinking i should wait until the holiday season and do something like the kpfa or sf women's building faire. either of you tried those?

      thanks again for the info!

      take care.
