Do the big California shows really charge a percentage of your sales? We just had dinner with a couple local crafters and one of the couples who are former Bristol merchants heard that Bristol is going to be starting this practice.

Re: percentage of sales charges?
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 7:57 AMWell Bristol is REC and in Wisconsin so doesn't really apply. Southern is now an "unknown quantity" and I believe that NorCal(Gilroy) still has a flat fee. Stafford/Santa Barbara & Tahoe are indefinitly On Hold. Thats it for the Big Cal. faires.
I've never done a Ren Faire that requires a percentage as well as a fee. I've done several which ignored their own vending protocols. -

Re: percentage of sales charges?
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 8:16 AM"Supposedly" the story was REC was going to start implementing exisiting CA policies to their Bristol show. But maybe it's just a misunderstanding. Up here in the frozen north, the only people I know of that get charged a percentage is independent food booths, so maybe it's just a change in food booth contracts that someone thought applied to everyone.
I often say there are more rumors at faire than at a UFO convention. ;-) -

Re: percentage of sales charges?
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 8:58 AMOkay... so REC is being merged/bought out by one of their own former subsidiaries?
Hmm... I think that comes under the heading of "may you live in interesting times"
